Loutron to Foinikas, Syros

annjsaundry

Apologies for the delay in posting but with some rough weather then no network connection, we are behind with the news from the voyage. Time to catch up!

On Monday (12 June), we left Loutra at 09.30 for the relatively short trip to Foinikas on the island of Syros. Again, we had called the Harbourmaster at Foinikas who advised us to get there before 14.00 as they were likely to be busy.

Once out of the harbour, the route was a straight line and, with the wind coming from the north, as predicted, we were able to have a lovely sail across.

With a top speed of 7.7 knots, we thought we were making good headway until we were overtaken by one of the fast ferries plying the islands!

We arrived at Foinikas ahead of schedule at 13.30 and were pleased we had as, by then, there were only a limited number of spaces available on the outer wall of the harbour. We picked a spot next to a large motorboat, dropped our anchor a good distance out and reversed back to the key where a skipper from a schooner moored along the quay was waiting to take our lines.

Safely moored up, we had lunch on board then had a wander and a swim in the wonderfully clear water.

We had an enjoyable dinner overlooking the harbour then back to the boat for an early night.
